====== How to apply for SAGA / NIRD / NREC accounts ======

NIRD, formerly known as Norstor, stands for National Infrastructure for Research Data ( https://www.sigma2.no ). Currently we have allocated 40 TB of storage. We use it to share non-sensitive data, such as GWAS summary statistics or synthetic data. This storage is accessible via ssh and has fast links to internet, SAGA, TSD. NIRD is really helpful if you need to transfer some data (non-sensitive or encrypted) into TSD.

Sigma2 gives us CPU hours on SAGA computing cluster ( https://documentation.sigma2.no/quick/saga.html ). Currently we allocate about 300 000 CPU hours for each 6 month. In addition we have 5 TB of project space on SAGA.

Procedure to request access to these resources:

  - Go to the following:
    * Notur (Saga HPC): https://www.metacenter.no/user/application/form/notur/
    * Norstore (NIRD): https://www.metacenter.no/user/application/form/norstore/

  - Fill in all required fields.
    * Under "Organization" choose ''Univeristetet i Oslo / MED, UiO''.
    * Under "Project",
      * if Norstor application choose: ''NS9114K Neuronal modelling for schizophrenia research''.
      * if Notur application choose: ''NN9114K: Computational analysis of severe mental illness''.
  - Under "Project leader" write ''Ole Andreas Andreassen''.
  - Under "Resource information"
    * if Norstor application: choose ''Nird''.
    * if Notur application: choose ''Saga''.
  - Send application.
    * Switch
      * 1st time here? Go to 2. and choose the option (Norstor/Notur) that you didn't choose the first time.
    * 2nd time here? You're done.
    * 3rd time here? Throw an error and file a bug report.

=============================================================================================
When you receive an e-mail from sigma@uninett.no regarding approved application for Norstore project NS9114K, this may include the following:

"Your password(s) are not reset."

This indicates that you can access this projects resources on for instance abel but you won't have a password that is recognized if you try to log on nird (user@login.nird.sigma2.no).

To be able to log on to nird through user@login.nird.sigma2.no you have to go to this site: metacenter.no , select "User login (Passwords)" and "log in". Here you can then reset the password (you can use the one you have at UiO) and for resource choose "nird" to access the site and then reset the password from here.

  * If you have a paper published that did benefit from Abel / NIRD or TSD resources, please acknowledge by putting a project number in CRIStin.
  * The steps how to do that are described here https://www.sigma2.no/reporting-usage-through-cristin (with screenshots).
  * NN9114K - Abel / Saga
  * NS9114K - NIRD
  * NS9666S - TSD p33
  * This will help us when we apply for more resources from Sigma2.

==== NREC ====

http://nrec.no is an open-stack based system for getting virtual machines to host services (like this wiki) or making dev boxes (e.g. to build singularity images).

To get access:

  1. register at http://nrec.no using your UiO account
  2. e-mail to support@nrec.no about adding your account to uio-med-norment and uio-norment-database propjects (with "Sandeep Karthikeyan" <sandeep.karthikeyan@medisin.uio.no> in CC)
  3. Go to https://dashboard.nrec.no/dashboard/project/instances/
